Description

Monument of Gyuro Mihaylov in PlovdivThe incredible monument of Gyuro Mihaylov is located at the heart of Plovdiv and over the years it has become a place of worship for the people who sacrificed their lives in the name of their country and people. The story behind it is well known by locals and is quite inspiring! Gyuro Mihaylov was a Bulgarian soldier, who died during an Ottoman attack, in a fire, because he refused to leave his post after the soldier who was supposed to change with him never made it, as he was killed.

In 1962, the monument of Gyuro Mihailov was dismantled and transferred to the 9th Plovdiv Regiment, however in 1992, on the initiative of the Plovdiv citizens, the municipality decided to return the monument to the city centre.
